Today we said a (short-term) goodbye to our principal Helena who has left the school to go on maternity leave for a few months. We made a lovely card which we presented to Helena at Assembly. We also made predictions as to whether we think the baby will be a boy or a girl! We wish Helena all the best on her maternity leave and can't wait to hear the news about the baby's arrival.

Philip is our School Garden class rep and he recently attended a school meeting where the school garden team learned how to plant tomato seeds. Philip returned to the Birch Class and taught us all how to do it! We are very excited to watch our tomato seeds grow!
Today we investigated what happens when you mix different things together. Firstly we mixed food colouring and water; then we mixed in some oil; finally we mixed in some washing up liquid!! We are scientists! Today we investigated whether various food samples will dissolve in hot and cold water; firstly we made predictions and recorded them, then we added cold/hot water to the food sample and stirred them together - we recorded the number of times we stirred and any changes that occurred. Then we discussed our results as a class! Check out our amazing performances at the Seachtain na Gaeilge show this morning! We have really been enjoying this month's theme of water. Here is a display of our work so far - we created a water mind map; then we wrote a poem on water droplet templates about water; we examined a famous water theme artwork 'The Great Wave at Kanagawa' by Katsushika Hokusai and then explored various tints and shades of blue to create our own wave art; finally we conducted an experiment to examine what food samples will dissolve in cold and in hot water!! We can't wait to get stuck into next week's water themed work!
